Ambassador for Young Spreads a Love of Books

(MUSIC) Katherine Paterson HOST: If you are over the age of thirty you may not have heard of Katherine Paterson. But if you are under that age chances are good that you have. In fact, you might have read one of her many award-winning books. Or maybe you saw the movie version of her book, "Bridge to Terabithia." Now, the United States government has awarded Katherine Paterson a new job. Mario Ritter has more.

About Us

The Brush Park Conservatory is committed to developing a cultural center offering opportunities for young people of all ages to see, hear, and participate in the fine arts including music, drama, dance, the visual arts, and foreign languages. The Conservatory's primary objective is to enrich culturally, and give that opportunities to our youth and adults from the empowerment zone, as well as the Detroit metropolitan areas, with special emphasis on students from underprivileged households. Our mission is to captivate and foster a love of the creative arts by providing high quality activities with a commitment to excellence and accessibility; a place where students can be inspired, motivated, ready to learn, and able to create through concerts, recitals, plays, musicals, art shows, ballet, and dance recitals. The Conservatory will offer Kindermusik for eager, energetic, enthusiastic children from 1yr to 7years of age.

Our school is a non-profit, 501c3 community music school. We have been in operation since April 2003. We welcome all interested persons to take part in a wide variety of private and group lessons for their own growth and enjoyment. The Conservatory mission is geared in preparing to educate the complete musician and visual artist,  dance students and the drama students.  Our school will help prepare the student to meet those challenges and requirements to gain entry into the Fine Art High School's. The various programs will help our young students with a comprehensive musical foundation, we will provide specific guidelines to accomplish their musical goals. Our future projection will include a music computer lab for learning to write compositions and theory classes. The Conservatory faculty is composed of four dedicated instructors, professional musicians, visual artists, and visiting artists from around the world in our master class programs.

The Conservatory's future home will be centrally located in historic Brush Park, which is surrounded by all the major freeways and main bus line connections. We are being housed presently at the Hannan House located on Woodward Ave. Our main goal is to be a collaborator with the public schools in enhancing our children's interest in the arts to a higher level of excellency. We believe this creates and prepares young adults to be positive and productive in our communities and preparing them for higher education endeavors. The Conservatory hours of operation will be from Monday-Saturday, 9:00 am until 7:00 pm. There will be different levels taught in group form or private lessons for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students. The Brush Park Conservatory is waiting with open arms to service the community with love of the arts for our children's future
